Can we all just please stop talking about Greg Oden? I get that he remains one of the biggest names in Blazer history; an enigma. He’s Bigfoot, JD Salinger, and Mark Fidrych (look him up) all rolled in to one. He’s the ultimate click bait, really.
But at this point, we need to face facts. He’s a hard drinking, broken down, alleged woman beater who hasn't played a minute for the Blazers in nearly 5 years. December 2009, to be exact. Why are Portland’s bloggers and sports writers giving any ink space to this guy? The only thing writing about Oden accomplishes is to keep the wound from fully healing. And we Blazer fans have deep wounds when it comes to centers who “might have been”.
But I won’t go there.
The Blazers as a franchise have moved on from Oden. Blazer fans have the rarest of NBA commodities right now; a good team that is not only fun to watch, but genuinely enjoys playing with each other. Any time Oden’s name is brought up, it takes our attention away from that just a little bit.
I wish Oden the best, both in his career and his personal matters. But it’ll take a heck of a lot for me to write about him again here.
